Comedian Jasper Murume has opened up on the little details of the love affair he had with the late content creator Tabitha Gatwiri that went unnoticed, albeit in the public eye.
Speaking during the memorial service on Tuesday this week, the comedian, who rose to fame through Churchill’s show, shared the love he shared with the deceased and how they kept in touch even after they broke up.
The two initially met between 2018 and 2019 and although they eventually parted ways, they continued to work together on various projects.
Murume noted that their affair was so private that the public never found out about it.
“I don’t know if people knew, but Gatwiri was my girlfriend once. But that was a long time ago. I’m married now with children. Murume revealed.
Even after the split, Murume says they both continued with their careers, often collaborating on comedy and video content.
“What we did is that we made sure that we were never on bad terms with each other even after we broke up. We remained good friends.”
Content creator Carol Sonnie has also paid a heartfelt tribute to Gatwiri, whose death on 31 October shocked the entertainment industry.
Sonnie described Gatwiri as a selfless and kind-hearted person who left an indelible mark on those who knew her.
One particular memory that left a deep impression on Sonnie was when she visited Gatwiri.
“I remember when we went to her house, she went out of her way to make me feel comfortable. I didn’t have a costume at the time and without hesitation, she gave me one of hers – a piece that was part of her brand. She told me she would find something else for me to wear.” Sonnie recalls.
Gatwiri, also known as a social media influencer and content creator, will be laid to rest in her hometown of Nyeri on Friday 15 November.
An autopsy conducted at the Kenyatta University Funeral Home confirmed Gatwiri’s cause of death as suffocation.
The report stated that she died of positional asphyxia, which led to brain edema. Positional asphyxia, also known as the ‘jack-knife position’, occurs when a person’s posture restricts their ability to breathe properly. In such a position, airflow can be obstructed, leading to oxygen deprivation, unconsciousness, and, in some cases, death.
