Charisma Reveals He Turned Down Invitation To Perform At The Jamhuri Day Celebrations

Multitalented musician Fidel Omusula, widely known as Charisma, has revealed that he turned down an invitation from the national government to perform at this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations.

In a candid conversation on the Iko Nini podcast aired Thursday, November 27, 2025, Charisma revealed that a government agency had called him about a week ago with an invitation, which he declined.

The self-proclaimed “Luhya Heat” said that ideological differences and personal principles were the main reasons he declined the invitation

“I was called like a week ago by a government agency, and they were telling me they want me to perform on Jamhuri Day. I just told them, guys, I do not get how you guys can call me, and it made me think about it, nikarealise ni kwa sababu wanajua a lot of us can be bent,” Charisma said.

Charisma emphasised that accepting the invitation would have implied an endorsement of values and decisions he does not agree with.

“For me nilikuwa, hawa watu wako na audacity ya kupick phone na kunipigia. Hawa watu wanajua what I stand for and everything, and kitu kama Jamhuri Day ni an endorsement in a way,” he added.

The ‘Sina Noma‘ hitmaker went on to say that someone cannot go and perform at a place where he/she does not agree with the people’s ideology, adding that it does not make sense to just show up and perform.

“Hauwezi kwenda kuperfom mahali mtu hauagree na ideology zake na uende tu uperform,” he stated.

Charisma also noted that while he has been invited to government events before, he has maintained his stance, noting that he would rather be broke than perform at this regime’s event.

“Mimi nimeinvitiwa vitu za gava lakini haiwezi, wacha nisote. I do not think it is something that you will ever see me doing,” he added.

In addition, he expressed disappointment with how some Tanzanian artistes approached performing at state events. He emphasised that as musicians, their positions are built on the support of the people, and it would be wrong to turn their backs on fans who have supported them.

“I really had a problem with the way Tanzanian artistes went about it, first of all, as musicians we are in these positions because of the people, so to turn my back on those people who support me,”he said.
