There have long been rumours about the separation of veteran Ugandan artist, Jose Chameleone and his wife, Daniella, with rumours suggesting domestic violence was the cause.
It was believed that Daniella was forced to flee the country with their children due to frequent attacks by Chameleone.
She has now been living in the United States for more than three years. However, in a recent interview with a YouTuber, Daniella finally opened up about the real reason behind their breakup - Chameleone's alcohol addiction.
"Chameleone used to drink too much alcohol, often returning home at nine or ten in the morning or even eleven in the morning, he can't take care of himself. He was always drunk. I expressed my concern and begged him to change his behaviour, especially because we had grown up."
"I didn't want him to be a bad example for our children. Unfortunately, he refused to change. One day, I gave him the demand to choose between me, our children or alcohol, he chose alcohol. That's when I had to make the difficult decision to leave," explained Chameleone's wife.
Mpasho.co.ke contacted Chameleone to get his side of the story but by the time of going to publish, he still hadn't responded.
Chameleone's excessive drinking affected his health, leading to frequent hospital visits due to stomach and liver problems, all attributed to his alcohol consumption.
Last month, he was admitted to a hospital in the United States for the same issues, prompting his father to plead with him to give up alcohol for his longevity.
Daniella and Chameleone, despite their separation, have six children together.
