Singer Judith Nyambura Mwangi, widely known as Avril, has deactivated her Instagram account in the wake of a publicized altercation with long-time partner and baby daddy, Jibril Blessing, alias J Blessing.
The incident has ignited a social media storm, leaving fans and followers stunned.
Avril, whose Instagram account boasted over 2 million followers, ceased to exist on the popular platform after a series of posts and deletions on November 15, 2023.
The frenzy began when the songstress posted a now-deleted picture displaying a bruised face, sparking concerns among her fans.
The couple’s tumultuous relationship took center stage as the image went viral, prompting Avril to later reappear on social media and confess to forgiving J Blessing.
In a plea to the public, she urged Kenyans to extend the same grace to her partner.
In a subsequent statement, J Blessing acknowledged the altercation, expressing his distress over their private life being thrust into the public eye.
The statement revealed that, after seven years together, the couple had amicably decided to part ways.
The physical confrontation reportedly resulted in injuries for both parties, leading them to seek medical attention.
J Blessing clarified that one of the images posted by Avril was taken nearly a year ago during a previous altercation.
He took responsibility for the incident, emphasizing that he promptly took Avril to Aga Khan Hospital for treatment.
“I sincerely apologize for any harm I have caused Avril or any other person. I am not innocent, but I would like to clarify a few things. About a year ago, we had a physical altercation where we both got hurt and on that day, I immediately took her to the hospital at Aga Khan. I take full responsibility for that moment of weakness. One of the pictures she posted is from that incident,” he explained in his statement.
The couple’s split announcement has left the public in shock and sparked a heated debate on social media, with fans expressing a range of emotions, from sympathy to disappointment.
One of the reasons celebrities may deactivate their accounts temporarily is to control their public image or respond to controversies.
Taking a break allows them to assess the situation, avoid making impulsive responses, and strategize their communication.
Deactivating social media can also be a way to escape or minimize exposure to negative comments
