Nigerian music sensation Asake, renowned for hits like Omo Ope, Sungba, and Terminator, has surprised fans with a dramatic transformation. Known for his signature dreadlocks, the artist is now rocking a short afro, a change that has stirred mixed reactions on social media.
Some fans have embraced the new look, while others remain unimpressed. Twitter user @withAlvin_ quipped, “Is it just me or does Asake look more like Kodak Black now? What happened to him?” Another user, @bigwiziii, shared a side-by-side comparison of Asake’s before-and-after look, captioning it, “Asake went from 100 to Zero.”
Rising Star in Global Music
Since debuting in 2020 with the single Lady, Asake has rapidly built a massive fan base both locally and internationally. Known for his lyrical creativity, catchy tunes, and visually stunning music videos, the artist continues to leave a mark on the global music scene.
Currently signed to Empire Distribution, Asake has received numerous accolades, including AFRIMA’s Break Out Artist of the Year (2022) and a BET Awards nomination for Best New International Act (2023). He was also a Grammy nominee in 2023 for his hit single Amapiano.
Controversies Along the Way
Despite his success, Asake has not been immune to controversy. He faced backlash for allegedly “mocking” Christianity in the music video for Only Me, where he appeared in religious attire with a halo. Fans demanded he show greater respect for other faiths.
Additionally, in early 2024, rumors swirled about a potential battle with drug addiction after the artist appeared noticeably leaner during a live performance.
A Vision for 2025
With five albums under his belt and over 7.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify, Asake’s career continues to soar. He recently teased new singles, Why Love and Bad Boy, promising more hits for fans in 2025.
Collaborations with global stars like Central Cee, Travis Scott, Stormzy, and fellow Nigerian artist Wizkid have further cemented his reputation as a versatile and dynamic artist.
A Personal Touch
Interestingly, Asake’s stage name is a tribute to his mother, whose name he adopted as his moniker. As he continues to grow in his career, fans eagerly await what the multi-talented artist will deliver next.
