Kenyan comedian Meshack Kiptoo Biwott, widely known as Arap Uria, has come out pleading for donations to families affected by the recent deadly landslide in Elgeyo Marakwet.

In a statement on his official Facebook account on Tuesday, October 4, 2025, the celebrated comedian, while mourning with families affected by the landslide, called on his fans to mobilise donations.

“Our prayers and thoughts to our people in Elgeiyo Marakwet, Team Strong; following this week’s landslide incident in Kerio Valley, we believe that when we come together, great things happen,” read the statement in part.

While requesting donations, Arap Uria asked fans to consider basic needs, which included food and clothing, while maintaining that he will only accept material donations and not monetary contributions.

“We are therefore requesting donations in kind—for example, food and clothing. Note: We are only accepting material donations, not monetary contributions,” Arap Uria noted.

On the other hand, he announced that his team is yet to establish a delivery point but will soon issue an update on the designated areas in Iten town and Eldoret City.

“We will update you soon on the designated delivery points in Iten town and Eldoret city. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected,” he added.

His pledge comes after the government confirmed that at least 19 people remain missing following the devastating mudslide that struck parts of Elgeyo Marakwet County, as heavy rains continue to wreak havoc across the country.

In a statement on Monday, November 3, 2025, the government spokesperson, Isaac Mwaura, confirmed that 15 survivors have been discharged and are receiving post-recovery and psychosocial support at Iten County Referral Hospital and Tambach Sub-County Hospital.

“As of today, the government confirms that 30 bodies have been recovered. The number of missing persons has reduced to 19,” the statement read in part.

“In addition. 15 persons have been discharged and are receiving post-recovery and psychosocial support at Iten County Referral Hospital and Tambach Sub-County Hospital, and 17 are still recuperating at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).”

Further, he revealed that the ongoing October-November-December (OND) rains have caused widespread flooding and landslides, affecting more than 6,000 households nationwide.
