Global Climate Advocate Anita Sonia has urged Kenyans to focus on real voting instead of relying on social media activism ahead of the 2027 elections.

In an Instagram video shared online on Instagram on Friday, November 28, 2025, she said people should stop assuming that online conversations can replace the physical act of casting a ballot.

According to her, the country does not have an online voting system, and that is a reality Kenyans must accept. She added that it is important for citizens to sacrifice their time and vote because refusing to do so only weakens their voice in decision-making spaces.

Anita said, “Nobody is going to bring ballot boxes on Facebook, TikTok, or X. At the moment, we don’t have an online voting system, and that is the reality, so we have to live with it.”

She went on to call out people who spend time posting and shouting ‘wantam’ online instead of going out to vote.

She told them, “Huna kura, hutaki kusacrifice time uchukue! You are shouting WANTAM and tallying votes online.” She said the votes being counted on social media do not represent the real situation because many voters on the ground make their decisions based on Sukumawiki and sweets.

She added that shouting wantam only is not enough and explained that people should also care about voting for their leaders who play important roles in their lives.

Anita also spoke about election rigging, saying that while rigging does happen, narrow margins make it easier for people to manipulate results.

She encouraged Kenyans to show up and vote so that the outcome can truly reflect the will of the people. She reminded citizens that many people dismiss their role by saying, “It’s only one vote,” yet millions of people think the same way.

In her message, she pointed out that every individual vote holds power, especially when many people decide to participate. She stressed that choosing not to vote gives room for others to decide on someone’s behalf. She shared her opinion strongly and said, “2027 msipovote, watakuvotia!”

Anita’s message serves as a reminder that despite the energy and debates online, elections are still decided at polling stations. She believes that for meaningful change to happen, Kenyans must make their vote count where it matters.
