WCB Wasafi, the record label established by Tanzanian Bongo Fleva music icon, Diamond Platnumz, has reportedly experienced the departure of another artist. This development comes just weeks after the exit of Mbosso from the same stable.
The report concerning the departure of the artist known as Lavalava was made public by Baba Levo, a close associate and confidant of Diamond Platnumz.
Baba Levo, often the initial source for news and updates within the Wasafi family, shared a photograph of Lavalava on his Instagram account.
This image was accompanied by a message expressing well wishes for Lavalava's future endeavours in the music industry, now outside the auspices of WCB Wasafi.
In his message, Baba Levo commended Lavalava for his significant talent. He also highlighted the efforts undertaken by his "elder LUKUGA" – a reference to Diamond Platnumz – in nurturing and monetising Lavalava's artistic abilities.
According to Baba Levo, Diamond Platnumz actively championed Lavalava's career, ensuring his talent translated into financial success and self-sufficiency. Baba Levo specifically mentioned the collaborations between Diamond Platnumz and Lavalava on numerous musical projects as evidence of this support.
Baba Levo concluded his message by extending congratulations to Lavalava for his decision to embark on a solo journey outside of WCB Wasafi.
While acknowledging that this decision might have been delayed, Baba Levo suggested that Lavalava's departure would create an opportunity for Diamond to introduce and cultivate new artistic talent within the music scene.
He further stated that Lavalava had now reached a stage where he could operate independently, thus allowing space for fresh individuals to emerge under the WCB Wasafi banner.
Information available online indicates that Lavalava's association with WCB Wasafi commenced in 2015.
However, his official unveiling as a signed artist under the label occurred on May 22, 2017. This announcement coincided with the release of his widely popular song titled "Tuachane," which marked his formal entry into the WCB Wasafi roster.
According to the official WCB Wasafi website, the label publicly presented Lavalava as its newest artist on May 24, 2017, solidifying his position within the prominent music group.
In recent times, particularly following the departure of Mbosso approximately two months prior, Lavalava had reportedly faced increasing pressure and criticism from some fans.
These criticisms often centred on perceived stagnation in his musical output while remaining under the WCB Wasafi label, with some suggesting that his recent musical works had not matched the quality and impact of his earlier releases.

Providing a historical overview of artist departures from WCB Wasafi, Harmonize joined the label in 2015 and subsequently left in 2019 to establish his own record label, Konde Music Worldwide.
Rich Mavoko became a WCB Wasafi artist in June 2016, spending over 26 months with the label before his departure on August 9, 2018.
Rayvanny joined WCB Wasafi in 2016 and officially exited in July 2022, after a six-year tenure, to launch his own venture, Next Level Music.
Lavalava's reported departure now significantly reduces the artist roster of WCB Wasafi. Following his exit, the label is left with only two remaining artists who were officially signed: Zuchu, who was introduced to the public in early 2020, and DVoice, who was the most recent addition to the label, having been signed in 2023.
