Afrobeats Star Burna Boy launches his own football academy

Nigerian music sensation Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, is making a bold move from the music stage into the world of football by launching his own academy.

This venture is set against the backdrop of Nigeria's thriving sports scene, with state-of-the-art training facilities established in key cities, including Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.

In a recent announcement that sent ripples through both the music and sports communities, Burna Boy revealed the details of his project.

Infographics outlining the vision and operational structure of the academy surfaced online this Monday, offering an exciting preview of the program aimed at nurturing young talent.

The academy is designed to cater to aspiring footballers aged 4 to 15, with additional programs for older participants aged 16 to 21.

The mission, as outlined on the academy's website, emphasizes not just football skills but overall development:

"We aim to create an environment where young people can learn the fundamentals of football while integrating education, discipline, and techniques to achieve excellence both on and off the field."

Moreover, the academy underscores the vital role of parental involvement in the sports journey, highlighting the importance of blending sports education with academic success.

Prominent partnerships are featured on the academy’s website, including affiliations with prestigious English clubs such as Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, and Brighton & Hove Albion, as well as Championship side Watford.

Additionally, Scottish clubs like Hearts and Hamilton have joined the roster, showcasing the academy’s far-reaching network.

In the bustling streets of Lagos, the academy has established two training centers in the Lekki and Surulere areas, along with facilities in Abuja and Port Harcourt.

Their well-structured program boasts three training sessions per week, each lasting two hours and focused on developing essential football skills.

Interestingly, whispers suggest that the academy has been operating quietly before this online reveal, as evidenced by their website showcasing the results of seven friendly matches, recording four wins, two losses, and one draw.
