Chef Maliha breaks Guinness World Record for the longest home kitchen cooking marathon

Kenyan self-taught chef Maliha Mohammed has surpassed the longest home kitchen cooking marathon, beating out the previous record holder.

After an adrenaline-packed 'cook-a-thon' which lasting a staggering 90 hours and 15 minutes, Mohammed has officially surpassed the previous record held by American chef Rickey Lumpkin of California, who achieved a home cooking time of 68 hours, 30 minutes, and 1 second in December 2018.

Taking to Instagram, where she has been documenting every little step of the journey, the chef took a moment to express her gratitude to her supporters, sharing the news of her achievement with a heartfelt message.

"Yes, we did it! New world record holder for the longest home kitchen cooking marathon in town! Shukran for the support!" she wrote.

Maliha's cook-a-thon commenced on Thursday, August 10, 2023 running through several days which saw her take short breaks and then embark on preparing tons of scrumptious foods.

Not new to breaking cooking records, Maliha soldiered on, as fans cheered her on, some online and others at her kitchen in Athi River.

Also, notable names in the entertainment industry including Crazy Kennar, Oga Obinna, Winnie Odinga, Nadia Mukami, Vinnie Baite and more showed up to show support for Maliha, cheering her on, applauding and even doing impromptu performances and dances.

The chef's groundbreaking accomplishment is now awaiting certification by the Guinness World Records, a process that involves meticulous verification and documentation.

If successfully validated, Mohammed will be crowned the new world record holder replacing Lumpkin.

This comes two months after Hilda Baci, a Nigerian chef attempted the record for the longest cooking non-stop by an individual.

Hilda was confirmed in June by the Guinness World Record as the new holder for the much-coveted record after cooking for 100 hours straight.
