Two suspects have been apprehended while attempting to smuggle 300kg of bhang into the nation through the Kenya-Tanzania border.
A report from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Monday noted that Daniel Okoth and Erick Ombima drove into Kenya using the Nyametaburo route and later joined the Isibania-Migori highway at Mabera, Migori County.
Police officers stationed at Isebania Police Station were privy to the incident and trailed the suspects driving a Toyota Prado and laid an ambush approaching Karamu Bridge area.
The driver is said to have attempted to run over a police officer while evading a roadblock but was forced to stop after gunshots rent the air.
One male suspect managed to escape leaving Okoth and Ombimba in the hands of the officers.
DCI estimates the value of the seized contraband to be at Ksh.9 million.
Meanwhile, the suspects are being held at Isibania Police Station awaiting further action.
