A simmering family feud took a dangerous turn when a woman enlisted help to firebomb her mother-in-law’s car.

Alisha Anwar, 29, reportedly felt ostracized by Christina Place, 54, who allegedly disapproved of the marriage. This disapproval allegedly fueled a desire for revenge, leading Anwar to approach an acquaintance, Luke Williams, with a shocking proposition: burn her mother-in-law’s car for money.

Williams, unbeknownst to his girlfriend, agreed. In June 2022, Mrs. Place witnessed her car erupt in flames outside her Wrexham home. The fire quickly spread, damaging two other vehicles and forcing the evacuation of a neighboring house.

Thankfully, nobody was injured. However, the incident exposed a plot fueled by resentment. Police discovered a glass bottle of petrol under the charred remains of Mrs. Place’s car, along with CCTV footage of Williams filling a petrol can the day before. Anwar’s financial records revealed a suspicious £150 payment to Williams, disguised as “birthday money.”

Faced with mounting evidence, Anwar confessed to conspiracy to commit arson. Williams will be sentenced next week for his role in the scheme.

Anwar’s lawyer argued she was a “vulnerable young woman” acting out of revenge, but Judge Niclas Parry condemned the act. He highlighted the potential dangers of arson and sentenced Anwar to 16 months in jail, along with a restraining order protecting Mrs. Place.
