Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said President William Ruto’s administration is ready for views and criticism from churches and all Kenyans.
Speaking at a church service in Ndia, Kirinyaga County on Sunday, the DP said he recognises the importance of other voices in improving governance, noting that the government has no problem with input from the church, civil societies and other non-governmental agencies.
“We are in no war with the church, we recognise that as human beings we are not perfect. As such, we are open to criticism and feedback from the church, civil society and NGOs so that we can serve Kenyans better,” he said.
Kindiki said the government is addressing problems raised by the Catholic Church last week like the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), competency-based curriculum (CBC), and cost of living, among others.
“We know the transition from NHIF to SHIF has teething problems which seem to be troubling Kenyans, same with the transition to CBC; the government is listening and is working on streamlining things,” he said.
In a scathing statement on Thursday, Catholic bishops called out the Ruto administration for failure to deliver on campaign promises and accused the administration of fostering dishonesty.
