Vivo targets premium mid-range market as it launches camera-focused V50 in Kenya

Vivo has intensified its push into Kenya's competitive premium midrange smartphone market with the launch of its newest flagship, the V50.

The V50 heavily emphasises advanced portrait photography capabilities co-developed with optics giant ZEISS and AI features, aiming to capture creative consumers at a fair market price.

Priced at Ksh.69,999 and set to hit the shelves from April 14, 2025, the V50 signals Vivo's strategy to stand out through camera prowess and design aesthetics in a crowded field.

The V50 is available in a stunning range of colours inspired by nature, including Mombasa Blue, which should appeal to the local market.

The phone combines functionality with sophistication through luxury-grade engraving, matte precision Diamond Pattern, and high-gloss cut corners, showcasing vivo's dedication to meticulous craftsmanship.

With a significant hardware upgrade, notably featuring 50-megapixel sensors across all its main rear cameras, the V50 is designed to deliver consistent high-resolution imaging regardless of the lens used.

This ZEISS co-engineered system, including a primary camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and a large 1/1.55" sensor, is the phone's core feature and one that differentiates it from the rest.

"The vivo V series has always been about empowering our users to capture life's precious moments," stated James Irungu, Vivo Brand Manager, Kenya.

"With the V50, we're taking another leap forward in mobile imaging... Its advanced portrait capabilities, premium design, and powerful performance redefine the expectations for a smartphone in this price range."

Beyond the optics, Vivo is addressing other key consumer demands, starting with battery life.

The V50 comes packed with the company's "BlueVolt" battery technology, squeezing a large 6000 mAh battery into a relatively slim, curved chassis.

The launch positions the Vivo V50 against established players and newcomers in Kenya's vibrant smartphone market.
