Video: Nairobi County Officers Attacked and Beaten While Removing Illegal Structure, Four Hospitalised

In a violent confrontation earlier today, enforcement officers from the Nairobi City County Government were assaulted by a mob while attempting to remove an illegal structure obstructing a public road.

The incident, which took place in a residential area, resulted in four officers being hospitalised with injuries.

According to Geoffrey Mosiria, the Chief Officer for Environment in Nairobi County, the officers were lawfully discharging their duties when they were ambushed by mobilised goons.

"This kind of barbaric act is unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances," Mosiria stated.

He further condemned the attack as a direct assault on lawful authority, vowing that those responsible would face prosecution.

Video footage of the incident, shared by Mosiria, captures the chaos as uniformed officers are pursued by civilians amidst a backdrop of residential buildings and parked vehicles.

The clip shows the officers struggling to maintain order as the situation escalates.

Mosiria described the event as an attack not only on the individual officers but on the entire County Government of Nairobi, emphasising the need for respect and safety for those dedicated to restoring order and upholding the rule of law.

The attack though has raised some serious debate with some faction of net users arguing  that frequent harassment and allegations of corruption have eroded public trust, potentially fueling such resistance.

"Who gave kanjo the authority to destroy property and beat up people? Tuanze hapo," questioned one user.

Another respondent suggested that the approach to enforcement, which often employs force, invites reciprocal reactions, advocating for non-violent methods to de-escalate such situations.

Despite the backlash, Mosiria reiterated the county's commitment to accountability, stating, "We shall ensure that those who mobilised, aided, or participated in this attack are held fully accountable before the law."

He further pledged to revisit the matter firmly, ensuring justice is served and order is restored.

“Our officers deserve respect, safety, and protection as they serve the people of Nairobi with dedication. An attack on one officer is an attack on the entire County Government of Nairobi, and we shall revisit this matter firmly to ensure justice is done,” said Mosiria.
