Victoria Rubadiri set to leave Citizen TV, join CNN

Citizen TV renowned news anchor Victoria Rubadiri is set to leave Royal Media Services (RMS) after six years at the television station.

Sources who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that she has been serving her notice and will host her final show over the weekend.

Upon leaving Citizen TV, the source revealed that the news anchor is set to join CNN as Africa's correspondent.

To honour her tenure at the station, RMS staff cut a cake this past week.

Rubadiri hosted several shows including Citizen Weekend on Saturdays, where she gave prominence to many issues especially those touching on social norms and culture.

On Sundays, she hosted Sunday Live, alongside another acclaimed journalist, Jeff Koinange. 

Since January, senior journalists have left the RMS especially, Citizen TV including former crime and investigative journalist Hassan Mugambi and TV reporter Chemutai Goin. 

Throughout her career, Rubadiri has become one of the most sought-after journalists for her ability to tell compelling stories. 

In 2020, she won the BBC World News Komla Dumor Award, allowing her to attend a training course with the BBC Academy and join the News team for three months. 

Among her notable features included 'Wombs of Sorrow' which highlighted the experiences of women who suffered from cervical cancer.

Before joining Citizen TV, she climbed through Nation Media Group (NMG) ranks, hosting the NTV Weekend Edition alongside CNN's Larry Madowo. 

In 2009, the journalist graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Broadcast Journalism at Temple University in Philadelphia. 

Besides media, she has moderated high-level discussions of regional and continental importance in the past. One of the notable functions included the East African Business Council Summit in Arusha which hosted six presidents and the launch of the Africa CDC continental event-based surveillance (EBS) framework in 2023
