
Veteran Radio Presenter Edward Kwach Dies after battle with meningitis

Veteran journalist and Spice FM radio host Edward Kwach has died after a short illness, which saw him admitted to a Nairobi hospital a fortnight ago.
The 44-year-old's demise was confirmed by family spokesperson Michael Okwiri, who revealed that the deceased passed away on the night of April 28, 2025.
Kwach passed away while undergoing treatment after he was diagnosed with meningitis, an inflammation of the meninges, the protective membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
Okwiri, while mourning Kwach, termed the latter as a person who would be remembered for not only his warmth but also his exceptional taste for music.
According to Okwiri, Kwach touched the lives of many through his voice and presence on the airwaves, becoming a trusted and familiar companion to listeners across the country.
"It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved son and brother, Carey, who passed away last night, April 28 2025, while receiving treatment for meningitis," Okwiri announced.
"His passing is a tremendous loss to all who knew him personally and the many more who connected with him through his work," he added.
Kwach had been receiving medical care for the past two weeks and recently pleaded for a blood donation, which saw Kenyans express their support for him.

Before his demise, Kwach served as a radio host at Spice FM, an affiliate of the Standard Media Group. He hosted the Spice Drive, which aired weekdays from 3 pm to 7 pm.
His humorous nature and outstanding taste for music captivated many, earning him respect among his listeners. Besides working for the Standard Group, Kwach also worked for Urban Radio and Capital FM.
Following his death, several Kenyans, including renowned journalists and fellow radio hosts, expressed their tributes, most remembering him as a trailblazer and mentor.
Meanwhile, the family on Tuesday morning announced that the funeral arrangements were underway and further details would be provided in due course.
