Uproar In Huruma After The Fatal Shooting Of KMTC Student Sheryl Adhiambo

The National Police Service (NPS) has urged residents of Huruma, Nairobi, to remain calm and refrain from acts of violence following a fatal incident that triggered unrest in the area on Saturday night.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the police said the incident stemmed from a reported robbery earlier in the day.

According to the NPS, a complainant reported at Huruma Police Station on Saturday morning that he had been attacked by five young men known to him, robbed of a silver chain and Sh1,800 in cash, and threatened with death.

Police officers responding to the report arrested two suspects, while further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects later in the evening.

The student's demise triggered the Huruma Estate residents to torch two vehicles and engage in acts of violence that persisted throughout Sunday, February 8, 2026.

In the statement, the NPS acknowledged the tragic death of the KMTC student during the skirmishes and urged the public to allow the accountability process to take place.

NPS assured the public that “a full documentation and accountability process” was underway. Meanwhile, the service urged anyone with information that would help in investigations to share it with authorities.

Additionally, the Independent Policing and Oversight Authority (IPOA) had since taken over investigations and was on the ground early Sunday morning, conducting inquiries with full cooperation from the police.
