Two activists in Homa Bay County have moved to court seeking to suspend the ongoing construction of new County headquarters.

The activists have sued Governor Gladys Wanga, whose administration is accused of failing to seek public opinion when it decided to develop new county headquarters at Arujo. The location is where former Governor Cyprian Awiti constructed a Ksh.500 million Arujo animal feeds project.

The activists, Evans Oloo Gor and Michael Kojo also accused the county government of breaking the law when it allegedly failed to obtain approval from the County Assembly for it to get into an agreement with County Pension Fund (CPF) that is supporting the construction of the new offices.

Homa Bay County government got into an agreement with CPF in May 2024 to undertake the construction of new offices.

Kojo and Oloo however accuse the county government of failing to provide evidence that it complied with all the requirements needed for the project to be successful.

In their prayers, the activists asked the court to stop the construction process and also asked the court to issue a temporary injunction prohibiting some of the respondents or any person purporting to act under their authority from conducting any business at the site.

Justice George Ong’ondo of Lands and Environment Court has set a hearing date on October 7 when the petitioners will argue why the project should stop as the county government will tell the court why the construction should continue.
