Even family members were perplexed by their close closeness. Mercy Muthoni, 18, Sarah Cheptoo, 24, and Samuel Ndiba, 24, were close cousins who never missed an opportunity to spend time together.
The group grew close over time and spent their free time hiking together. They couldn't be separated.
They were linked at the hips and resembled Siamese twins. They were held together by a biochemical attraction.
Tragically, they passed away at the same location after a car accident involving their motorcycle and a police truck. They hardly ever left one other's side.
Ndiba joined Cheptoo and Muthoni last Thursday after the Nyonjoro Secondary School students left for the holidays.
"The three made the decision to go see their Kinungi-based aunt. According to their uncle Paul Njoroge Gitau, their other cousin was waiting for them.
Fatal accident
After their motorcycle was struck by the police van on the Naivasha-Nairobi route, their excursion was cut short.
According to Naivasha Police Commander Samuel Waweru, "Two of them died on the spot, while the third victim succumbed to her injuries while being transported to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital."
Their uncle said that the motorbike's rider at the time of the event was his nephew, a worker at a flower farm.
According to Mr. Gitau, their impatient aunt called her nephew and informed the family of the disaster.
The owner of the cell phone was involved in a terrible accident and had been taken to the hospital, according to a man at the scene who answered the call and told his sister.
They discovered just hours later that the three had died in the horrific crash, sending the close-knit family into mourning.
It is awful, and we are still processing what happened. It hurts a lot," Mr. Gitau remarked.
Those who knew the indissoluble trio in Karati hamlet struggled to accept the news of the deaths as their abrupt passing shook the community.
At the mortuary of the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital, where they were waiting for postmortems to be performed, family members were met by The Nation. They were inconsolable, and calls from concerned family members jolted them back to reality.
Ni uchungu, it hurts so bad, murmured Mr. Gitau.
The grieving uncle shook his head in astonishment as he scrolled through his phone. He dug up a photo of the three of them enjoying themselves on one of their regular outings.
Even though they were close, he remarked, "death together is a hard thing to accept.
"Whenever there was time, the three would take pictures together. Their other relative, Samuel Ndiba, remarked, "They were like inseparable twins.
The three cousins, according to him, excelled in school and were intelligent.
He said, "We had great hope in them, but the ruthless hand of death has snatched them from us.
Mr. Ndiba claimed that the deaths had severely impacted the family, particularly their grandma, who cherished them.
On December 1st, he stated, the three will all be interred in the same tomb.
They were inseparable in life, and Mr. Ndiba declared that they would remain so in death.
Samuel Ng'ang'a, the area chief, encapsulated the saddening moments by stating that the villagers were shocked by the news.
"This is the first time something of the sort has occurred here. They had close pals who were severely affected by their passing, he said.
