The Inspiring Journey Of Mercy Chete: From a Saudi Arabia Housemaid To A Rising Kenyan Author

At just 27 years old, Mercy Chete, a Kenyan woman from Webuye in Bungoma County, is turning her most difficult experiences into powerful stories that are now inspiring many.

Working in Saudi Arabia as a domestic worker in a highly restricted environment, Mercy has spent four years without the freedom to go out, socialize, or make personal decisions. Yet in the silence and isolation, she discovered a voice stronger than her circumstances. After long days of work, she wrote late into the night, pouring her emotions into stories that reflect courage, trauma, hope, and resilience.

Despite the challenges, Mercy has managed to write several captivating novels, including:

Caged in Crystals – a dramatic tale of glamour, secrets, and betrayal.

Our Buried Truths – a touching reflection on family trauma and generational healing.

Bound to Burn – a powerful narrative of forbidden love, politics, and survival.

When Silence Screams – a raw journey through pain, endurance, and hidden battles.

Mercy completed her KCSE with a D+, proving that success is not defined by classroom grades but by determination, discipline, and passion. Her journey—from a housemaid with limited freedom to a rising Kenyan storyteller—is a reminder that dreams can survive any environment, and greatness often rises from the most unexpected places.

She hopes her story will inspire young people, women working abroad, and anyone who feels unseen to keep believing in their dreams
