Samia Suluhu’s sworn-in as the President of Tanzania in a ceremony held in Dodoma, Tanzania.

The inauguration ceremony is being held at a military parade ground in the capital, Dodoma, in an event closed to the public but broadcast live by the state-run TBC.

The Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been sworn in for a second term amid tight security in Dodoma, following an election marred by violent protests and rejected by the opposition as a sham.

This follows after Samiah was declared the winner on Saturday, November 1, 2025, with 98% of the vote, after she faced little opposition, with key rival candidates either imprisoned or barred from running.

Worth noting, the elections, which were marred by violence, saw international observers raise concerns about the transparency of the election and its violent aftermath, with scores of people reportedly killed and injured.

In her victory speech, Samia said the poll was “free and democratic” and described the protesters as “unpatriotic.”

On the other hand, President William Ruto has extended heartfelt congratulations to President Samia Suluhu Hassan after she was officially declared the country’s first elected female president on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

In his statement on Monday, November 3, 2025, President Ruto highlighted the significance of the milestone while urging Tanzanians to uphold peace and the rule of law.

“This is a historic moment not only for Tanzania but for the entire East African region. I congratulate Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan on her election victory and call upon the people of Tanzania to maintain peace and respect democratic institutions,” Ruto said.

He emphasised that the peaceful resolution of political differences is critical for stability and prosperity.

President Ruto underscored the deep historical ties between Kenya and Tanzania, stressing that the two countries share common aspirations for regional integration, peace, and economic prosperity.

“Kenya remains ready to continue engaging constructively with Tanzania in pursuit of our shared vision for a peaceful, prosperous, and integrated East Africa,” he said.
