Seven people died in a road accident involving a bus and a trailer near Katumba trading centre on the Garissa-Mwingi road.
According to a police report obtained by Citizen Digital, the incident unfolded when a bus driver rammed into a trailer that had stalled on the road due to mechanical breakdown.
The bus driver, who was ferrying 50 passengers from Garissa to Nairobi, attempted to overtake an unknown motor vehicle which did not stop, prompting him to get back to his lane.
This, however, proved futile as the driver ended up ramming into a stalled trailer.
“As a result of the accident, 7 people have been confirmed dead while several others have been evacuated to various hospitals,” read part of the police report.
Traffic police officers arrived at the scene to restore traffic flow along the road.
