Rigathi Gachagua insists he is the Mt.Kenya region kingpin

Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has remained boisterous that he is the Mt.Kenya region kingpin and he cannot be ousted from the Kenya Kwanza government.

Speaking at Kagumo in Kirinyaga on Saturday, Gachagua dismissed political claims that he has lost favour from his boss President William Ruto and will be shown the door by the ruling government.

He argued that he was elected into government alongside President Ruto and can never leave until his tenure lapses, urging those spreading rumours on his ousting to remain tight-lipped and pave the way for development.

"Who is the king of this region, we love development," Gachagua said.

"We respect our leaders and we respect you because we elected you and I was your running mate. I have seen some leaders creating unreasonable debate and I'm urging members of parliament to stop it. If I'm not complaining who else is complaining? Let them stop," Gachagua said.

On his part, President Ruto said that his government is committed to transforming the nation's economic state, noting that he has even created room for a broad-based government as a key pillar to foster unity in the nation.

The broad-based government saw Mr. Ruto appointing four opposition-allied members to his Cabinet while appointing his second batch of Cabinet Secretaries. He had fired the first team after public clamor on a decadent government.

"You can see I'm accompanied by Hassan Joho the new mining, blue economy and maritime affairs and Cabinet Secretary Investment, Trade and Industry Salim Mvurya," Ruto said.

During his Kirinyaga tour, Ruto commissioned the construction of Sagana Special Economic Zone/County Aggregation and Industrial Park and visited the Sagana Fisheries Research Institute.

He has also launched the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project at Kang'aru, commissioned the Kiangùngù TVET College in Kirinyaga Central and later launched the construction of Baricho-Kagumo-Gathuthuma-Kangaita Road.
