Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has broken his silence following the Friday morning swearing in of his successor Prof. Kithure Kindiki.
Gachagua took to his social media platforms to post a photo of himself and his family – wife Pastor Dorcas and two children – while sitting on the grass at his compound presumably in his Central Kenya home.
The ex-DP, who was only recently removed from office by way of impeachment, expressed his gratitude to God for family, adding that he’s looking forward to taking his usual morning walks through Hombe Forest.
“Home Sweet Home! Thanking God for the gift of my family. The smell of fresh grass, sounds of chirping birds is what a happy family needs. I will remain forever grateful to God, for giving me a loving and supportive family,” he wrote.
“We are happy to be home, where I was born and brought up! I can’t wait for the morning to take my walk in Hombe Forest, enjoy the beautiful scenery of Mt Kenya as I thank God for His kindness. God Bless Kenya.”
Pastor Dorcas also posted the same photo to her social media platforms, accompanied by two Bible verses, as she noted that her family is still grateful to God regardless of the present circumstances.
“We Give God all the glory. It is easy to look at the challenges and circumstances surrounding you and forget the cardinal rule of a believer. Today, my family and I choose to give a prayer of thanksgiving, understanding that, God remains sovereign, whether He saves us from fire or not, Daniel 3:16-18," she wrote.
"We give thanks to God for His awesome faithfulness. We call Him, Ebenezer, for this far we celebrate Him. We have seen His mercy and experienced His goodness. Glory and honour be to His Holy name.”
Pastor Dorcas added: “Like Job 13:15-16. Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him; I will surely defend my ways to his face. Indeed, this will turn out for my deliverance, for no godless person would dare come before him! We appreciate your love and prayers. May God bless you all.”
This comes after Prof. Kindiki was early in the morning sworn in as the third Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya under the 2010 Constitution.
In line with the Assumption of Office Act, Prof. Kindiki took two oaths - the oath of allegiance and the oath of due execution of the office of Deputy President - during a ceremony presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
After taking the oaths shortly before 11 a.m., Kindiki proceeded to the ceremonial table, where he signed the oaths, committing to diligently execute his duties and perform his functions in accordance with the law.
The oaths were then transmitted to the Chief Justice, who countersigned them alongside the Deputy President. The Chief Justice's seal was affixed to each oath by court officials before they were handed over to the Attorney General for safekeeping.
Following this, President Ruto was invited on stage by the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary for the ceremonial handover of the Constitution of Kenya to Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
Speaking on why he picked Kindiki as his second-in-command, the President noted that Kindiki had shown great professionalism in his previous roles as Interior Cabinet Secretary, Tharaka Nithi Senator, and Senate Majority Leader.
President Ruto acknowledged that the Deputy Presidency ought to unite all Kenyans and not serve one's selfish interests, a clear swipe at Gachagua who was a constant advocate of the Mt Kenya region.
