Azimio leader Raila Odinga has called off Kamukunji rally set for today afternoon.

Speaking during a press conference in Nairobi the Azimio leader revealed intelligence reports uncovered that goons had been hired to disrupt the Kamukunji rally. 

The goons were allegedly hired by the Kenya Kwanza team to shoot at the protesters that would attend the rally. 

Police have shot injured and killed protesters in various parts of the country including here in Nairobi. Scores of protestants have been arrested here in Nairobi for participating in an exercise that is clearly protected by the constitution.

The Azimio chief revealed that the meeting we're supposed to be peaceful but police who use teargas and guns are the cause of violence.

"All our engagements have been peaceful until the police show up."

" Inorder to protect our people and avert more injuries and loss of lives , we have taken the strategic decision to not proceed with the rally at Kamukunji, " stated Raila. 

He commended all the Kenyans who heeded to their call and came out in large numbers to demand lowering of the cost of living.

 Protests were witnessed in Nakuru, Nyamira, Nyeri and other parts of the country where police engaged in running battles with the protesters.

However serious damage of property and protesters being injured and killed were witnessed in different areas.

The number of those that have killed has not yet been confirmed.
