President William Ruto has warned young Kenyans against misusing the NYOTA Fund money on unproductive activities such as romance and alcohol.
The Head of State spoke at the Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega County on Friday, November 7, 2025, where he launched the Nyota Fund initiative aimed at empowering youth and promoting self-employment across the country.
The president said the money disbursed under the NYOTA program must be used responsibly, warning that his government will not tolerate the misuse of funds meant to uplift lives.
“I should not get a report that someone who got the NYOTA money used it to fund romance or to buy alcohol.
“I want to thank the World Bank Group for being our partner. The money we are giving you today is a loan we took from the World Bank.

“The Government of Kenya will repay it, so you must use that money wisely. Tumieni hiyo pesa vizuri,” Ruto said.
He added that the program was designed to support innovation, entrepreneurship, and skills development among youth, not to promote laziness or reckless spending.
Ruto also emphasised the role of technology in promoting fairness and transparency in the country’s governance systems.
“Technology democratizes opportunity, and the transparency it brings is a true game-changer because we do not want a Kenya where you must know someone to get something.
“This is how we are going to fight corruption and deal with brokers,” he said.
The president further revealed that he has instructed all Members of Parliament to establish at least one ICT hub in every ward to enable young people to access digital jobs, engage in e-commerce, and contribute to the growth of the economy.
“I’ve instructed every MP to establish at least one ICT hub in every ward so that young people can access digital jobs, engage in e-commerce, and actively contribute to growing our economy through these structures,” he stated.
Ruto concluded by urging the youth to seize the opportunity and use the funds to create employment for themselves and others, saying the future of Kenya depends on responsible and visionary young people.
