President William Ruto has urged Meru county leaders to put aside their differences and work for the people of Meru.
Speaking in Laare, Meru County on Sunday, Ruto said he is aware of the wrangles within the County and that those involved are already focusing on the 2027 general election, instead of serving the electorate.
The president started by defending his Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Mithika Linturi, saying he is hardworking and should not be dragged into the county squabbles.
"I urge all leaders to work together because everyone is a leader in their own way. In 2027 these people will decide who becomes their leader. We have no time to waste on infighting, let's come together and work as a unit," Ruto said.
Turning to Governor Kawira Mwangaza, the president urged her to work for the people of Meru, adding that she should strive to bring people together.
"Mama yenu hapa wa county afanye kazi ya county. Na uunganishe watu wote wawe kitu kimoja. Tusiwatenganishe hawa ni group hii, hawa ni group ile. Si mnaona ata mimi navumilia wale wa maandamano. Tunazungushana namna hii lakini kazi ifanywe. Si lazima tupendane lakini tufanye kazi pamoja; Mapenzi itaingililia hapo tu," Ruto added.
He played down the magnitude of the fallout in Meru, saying it is something small that he will work on and find an instant solution to.
His sentiments come a day after his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, threatened to rally residents to remove from office wrangling county officials.
Speaking in Nyeri, Gachagua warned leaders in the counties of Meru, Kiambu and Kericho that if they don't find a solution to the squabbles, then they will be removed from office.
Governor Kawira's relationship with Meru MCAs has been a sour one. She was impeached by the MCAs but the Senate overturned the impeachment.
Recently, reports emerged that Mwangaza and her deputy Isaac Mutuma are not in good terms. She downplayed the claims.
