President William Ruto has told off leaders to have been pushing for tribal narratives that cause division in the country.
According to the President, all Kenyans are equal and have a right to benefit from the development of the country.
He insisted that no form of discrimination will be allowed in the country.
Ruto said that the country’s forefathers came from different parts of the country but were united by the pursuit of national liberation.
They fought against an unjust, exclusive, and oppressive system to be free.
“The great lesson that has been passed down to us from their era, and which we must faithfully transmit clearly and boldly to future generations, is that every citizen of Kenya is a full and equal member of our political community, entitled to make a contribution to nation building, and with an inalienable right to a full, just and fair share of all the benefits that accrue from our development.
“No proposition to discriminate or to unjustly diminish one while enlarging another's rights is admissible. Therefore, any formula seeking to exclude, alienate or disenfranchise any person, group or community for any reason is repugnant to the very essence of our nationhood. We are one people, and Kenya is one united, indivisible and sovereign nation,” Ruto said.
He made the remarks at the 61st Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kwale county, on Sunday.
Ruto has been vocal in the fight against division along tribal lines.
He called on Kenyans to endeavor at all times to promote cohesion and inclusion.
The President insisted that without unity the future of the country would be under threat.
“Let us do our part to promote national cohesion and inclusion and combat division, tribalism and exclusion. Let us remember that without unity, our freedom and our future would be under threat.
“Together we are unstoppable in pursuit of our aspirations and immovable in the face of any challenge.” Ruto added.
