President William Ruto on Sunday reiterated his ambitious plan to provide employment opportunities for the Kenyan youth, saying that he is willing to go to any lengths to achieve his goal.
Speaking during a church service at the Faith Evangelistic Ministries (FEM) in Karen, Nairobi, Ruto stated that his government has made deliberate interventions to provide working opportunities for the youth starting with the Housing plan.
"I am ready to pay any price to have a plan on how to create opportunities for the young people of Kenya," he said.
"Many people were wondering 'Why are you pushing this housing agenda? Who told you we need a house? We all have houses what is this?' It wasn't so much about the houses it was so much about the jobs for the young people of Kenya."
He went on to add that the government will be seeking to exhaust all the employment sectors to help salvage the skyrocketing unemployment rate in the nation.
"We have never had a comprehensive programme, deliberate, intentional to create opportunities for the young people of Kenya to have income," he noted.
"I am happy that this time round we not only have a plan [but] we have clear interventions, money to do it and create jobs in the housing plan in the digital space, exporting labour."
The Head of State likewise said that his government eyes to foster the education sector by helping children from needy backgrounds gain access to free meals in schools.
"This year we are going to use our taxes to make sure that our children go to school and have a meal, who otherwise would not attend class because they do not have something to eat," he said.
"We have agreed with the (Nairobi) governor that we are going to feed 250,000 kids in the city of Nairobi, especially from the informal settlements."
Ruto pleaded with the faithful to pray for his government to diligently work towards achieving its objectives.
"Please pray for us so that we can be faithful and we can keep to our commitments and we can keep focus and make sure that nobody steals the future of our country."
