President William Ruto now says a university graduate from Kilgoris, Narok County is making Ksh.68,000 weekly from doing online jobs.
During a visit to Kilgoris on Sunday, the president met Abraham Leteipa Kaeno, whom he said has embraced working online and is now making impressive figures weekly.
“Abraham Leteipa Kaeno is a powerful story of how the youth can effectively use technology for self-employment. Through Konza Digital Skills, the 29-year-old university graduate from Kilgoris is making an average of $500 (Sh68,000) a week from online jobs," Ruto said in a social media post.
He attached photos showing Kaeno speaking to him and First Lady Rachel Ruto at a desk with a desktop computer.
Ruto's latest remarks follow similar ones he made in January after an encounter with a college student from Mosop, Nandi County reportedly making over Ksh.26,000 a week from online jobs.
Brian Kipchumba, a student pursuing a diploma in ICT, showed Ruto how he pocketed Ksh.40,000 from a single gig on the Remotasks website, which has since shut down in Kenya.
The president would weeks later announce a plan to install computer labs in rural areas and train the youth, who would then be earning dollars by doing online jobs in a campaign dubbed ‘Finya computer itoe dollar’.
During his Sunday visit to Kilgoris, Ruto also opened the Ildolisho Comprehensive School Konza Digital Skills and later broke ground for the construction of the Kenya Utalii College's Ildolisho Campus.
The Konza Digital Skills is an initiative under the Konza Jitume Programme, where the youth are provided with access to digital services, digital skills, and opportunities to enable them to take advantage of technology for job creation.
