President Ruto condemns assassination attempt on Donald Trump

President William Ruto has condemned the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump.

Taking to social media, Ruto termed the incident not only shocking but also heinous.

"On behalf of the people and government of the Republic of Kenya, I wish to add my voice to those condemning the recent attempted assassination of former U.S. President Donald J. Trump," reads part of the statement.

Ruto sent his sympathies to President Trump, his family, and the families of the victims of the attack.

"In these troubling times, I take this opportunity to recommit to the democratic ideals we share with the people of the United States of America. Wishing Trump a speedy and full recovery," he added.

An investigation is ongoing into the assassination attempt on Trump, who appeared at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Monday.

Trump was shot in the ear during a Saturday campaign rally, in an attack that left the Republican presidential candidate's face streaked with blood and prompted his security agents to swarm him, before he emerged and pumped his fist in the air, mouthing the words "Fight! Fight! Fight!"

The shooter was dead, one rally attendee was killed, and two other spectators were injured, the Secret Service said in a statement.
