President Ruto announces plan to build a museum and science park in Turkana county

President Ruto  has announced plans to establish the Home of Human Origins Museum and Science Park in Turkana County.

Speaking during the Tobong’u Lore Festival in Lodwar on Friday, October 25, the President said the museum would contribute greatly in the promotion of tourism and local development.

The initiative seeks to enhance research, attract visitors globally and celebrate the region's rich human history.

He noted Turkana's archaeological significance, saying it offers valuable insights into human evolution.

He described the museum and science park as "an important project that will be established at Namortunga-Kalokol as a world-class centre for scientific research, cultural tourism and ecotourism."

The Tobong’u Lore, known in English as the Lake Turkana Cultural Festival, celebrates indigenous culture every spring in Turkana, northern Kenya.

This year’s festival, now in its eighth edition, began on Thursday and attracted thousands of local and foreign visitors.

It showcases traditional Turkana dances, music, cuisine and crafts, serving as a reminder of the strength found in cultural unity.

The festival fosters peace by inviting neighbouring communities from South Sudan, Uganda and Ethiopia to participate.
