President William Ruto on Sunday announced that the deployment of Kenyan police to Haiti will take place in the next two weeks.

Speaking at a church service in Nakuru, President Ruto reiterated the stance that Kenya will honour its commitments to restore peace in the Caribbean nation.

“We have a very blessed nation that is being depended on by foreign nations as well, People from Sudan, and DRC are waiting on Kenya to assist them.

"For those in Haiti maybe this coming week or next week we will deploy our Police to maintain peace,” Ruto stated

The president hinted that the arrangements which had been taking place would be finalised in the coming weeks.

Earlier on, the deployment featuring Kenyan 1,000 police officers and 2,500 from other nations had been halted to allow pre-deployment arrangements to be finalised.

Further, media reports indicated that the initial deployment was planned to include 500 Kenyan police officers, 400 security professionals, and 100 members of staff such as medics, with the next group arriving at a later date.

In an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke , Dr. Ted Higgins, a prominent figure leading a coalition of 200 hospitals in Haiti had also expressed confidence in the Kenyan mission, highlighting the eagerness of Haitians to see an end to the chaos that has plagued their country.

However, Haiti has faced a fresh hitch altogether after its recently installed Prime Minister Garry Conille was hospitalised following an asthma attack on Saturday afternoon.

Conille, who took over the position in an acting capacity, felt unwell and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

"Following a week of intense activities, the Prime Minister had a slight illness on the afternoon of Saturday, June 8, 2024, and went to the hospital for treatment," a statement from the Haitian government read in part.

Additionally, various Carribean media outlets reported that the Prime Minister had been flown out of the country for specialised treatment.
