Police in Chesikaki, in Mt. Elgon, Bungoma County have commenced investigations to uncover circumstances that led up to a middle-aged man beating his daughter to death.

Maurice Toto, 41, reportedly attacked his 23-year-old daughter, Esther Nasimiyu, on Thursday night, following a clash of opinions over an unspecified family matter.

Nasimiyu’s lifeless body was later discovered in her room on Friday at noon. According to police, her body bore multiple body injuries inflicted by a blunt object.

Police in Chesikaki, Bungoma County, have commenced investigations into an incident where a father is reported to have beaten his daughter to death.

According to the area chief, Maurice Otala, the 41-year-old man allegedly meted the corporal punishment on his daughter, who had gone missing from home.

Otala, while addressing a press conference on Friday, January 10, revealed that upon receiving the information, he quickly informed the Chesikaki Officer Commanding Sation (OCS), who arrived at the scene alongside a team of detectives.

A police report revealed that the father reportedly committed the heinous act on the night of Thursday, January 9, moments after the daughter returned.

The 22-year-old girl’s body was discovered by curious neighbours on Friday, lying inside her father’s house with multiple injuries alleged to have been inflicted by a blunt object.

Reports further indicated that the deceased was among the candidates who sat for the recently released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and scored a grade of D.

Following the tragedy, the suspect was arrested yesterday and is currently detained at the Chesikaki Police Station awaiting his arraignment in court on Monday, January 13.

Moments after conducting preliminary investigations, the officers ferried the middle-aged girl’s body to the Sante Hospital for preservation, awaiting a postmortem.

Meanwhile, the area chief, while addressing the residents, urged parents to utilise alternative methods of discipline as opposed to corporal punishment.

Otala further dismissed allegations that the man’s decision to punish the girl could have been linked to the victim’s grade that she obtained in her national examinations.

“As the area chief, I condemn such an act, because that is not the solution to such problems. I do not think her death is linked to her KCSE grade,” Otala told journalists.

“It was just a difference in the parent and child’s opinions. I want to urge parents to stop caning their children, the father could have just advised the daughter on the right thing to do,” he added.
