In a statement, NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga revealed that the three trailers collided on a railway bridge at Jet Inn area, completely blocking the road.
He added that police officers were dispatched to the scene and are working with relevant agencies to restore normal traffic flow.
Mombasa-bound vehicles were advised to use the Machakos–Wote– Makindu route, while the Nairobi-bound traffic can opt for the Makindu–Wote–Machakos route.
"We urge motorists to exercise patience and maintain lane discipline, consider alternative routes to ease congestion and enhance safety," the statement read in part.
"NPS reaffirms its steadfast commitment to maintaining law and order on our roads."
Drivers are urged to exercise patience and caution as cleanup efforts continue.
