The National Police Service (NPS) has announced a slight change in venue for candidates taking part in the exercise scheduled to resume from Monday, November 17. 

In a notice on Sunday, the NPS specifically announced that candidates registered for Centre No. 408 in Kamkunji Sub-County would have to report at the Morisson Primary School. 

Initially, the exercise was supposed to take place at the Kamukunji Sports Grounds. The NPS, however, noted that there were ongoing construction works at the grounds, prompting the switch in venue. 

"The original venue, located some two kilometres away, has been deemed unfit to conduct the recruitment due to ongoing construction works," a statement from the NPS said.

As of Sunday, venues for the police recruitment elsewhere in the country remain unchanged. The exercise will run from 8am to 5pm. 

Plans to recruit police officers first came to light on October 31 following a highly publicised advert by the NPS. However, the exercise hit a snag after activist Eliud Matindi filed a petition questioning the legality of the process. 

After conservatory orders were issued, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja warned that further delays in the recruitment exercise would jeopardise national security and hinder efforts to strengthen police capacity. Justice Bahati Mwamuye would later lift the conservatory orders, paving the way for the exercise to resume on November 17. 

The service has been unable to recruit for several cycles due to budget constraints, leaving staffing levels below the required threshold.

Meanwhile, according to NPS, applicants in the upcoming recruitment will be required to meet several minimum requirements, including being Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years, holding a valid national ID, and having at least a D+ in KCSE with a minimum D+ in either English or Kiswahili.

Candidates are also required to be physically and medically fit, with a minimum height of 5 ft 8 inches for males and 5ft 3 inches for females. Female applicants must not be pregnant during recruitment or training.

At the same time, those with felony records or pending charges will be ineligible, while National Youth Service (NYS) graduates who meet the minimum requirements are encouraged to apply.

IG Kanja has since confirmed that the recruitment exercise will be a one-day event at 427 centres across the country.
