ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has reassured Kenyans that no personal or government data was compromised following a temporary outage of several government websites on the morning of Monday, November 17, 2025.
In a statement on Monday, November 17, 2025, Kabogo confirmed that the outage, which lasted several hours, did not result in the loss, alteration, or unauthorised access of sensitive information.
He explained that the Ministry’s IT teams acted swiftly to contain the incident, restore functionality, and implement immediate security measures across the affected platforms.
Kabogo stressed that the disruption affected online access only, and all affected systems have now been fully restored.

“The disruption affected website access only. No personal or government data was accessed, altered, or lost,” Kabogo said.
“Our teams acted quickly to secure the platforms and restore services, and we have strengthened monitoring to prevent future incidents.”
The Ministry traced the disruption to unauthorised attempts to interfere with government digital infrastructure. Emergency response mechanisms were triggered immediately, and specialised IT teams worked around the clock to mitigate any potential impact.
All critical online government services, including portals used by citizens, were restored and are now fully operational.
Kabogo emphasised that the government has invested heavily in cybersecurity protocols to safeguard essential digital services.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious online activity, noting that cooperation between authorities and citizens is key to maintaining a secure digital ecosystem.
“The government regrets any inconvenience caused during the downtime and reaffirms its commitment to providing transparent, reliable, and secure access to digital services for all Kenyans,” Kabogo concluded.
Earlier, the Interior PS Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo rebuked the hacking incident, saying it is in violation of Kenyan law and applicable international conventions, including the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, the Kenya Information and Communications Act, and the Data Protection Act.
