Newborn Baby Rescued From Pit Latrine In Kirinyaga

A newborn baby has been rescued from a pit latrine in Kagumo, Kirinyaga County.
Fire Brigade Officer John Kiama said they rushed to the scene after locals raised the alarm.
"We rushed to Kagumo after residents made a distress call. Luckily, the baby was still alive," Kiama said.
The fire brigade team rescued the baby from the latrine located at a rental house.
"The exercise was successful as locals joined hands with the rescuers,"Mary Wambui, a resident, added.
The baby was rushed to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital for treatment.
"We attended to the baby and are currently monitoring him. He is responding well to treatment,"a doctor at the facility said.
Police have launched investigations into the incident.
