Three politicians from Tana River County have appeared before the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over the ongoing ethnic clashes in the coastal county.
The trio include former Woman Representative Rehema Hassan, Galole MP Hiribe Said Buya and Bangale MCA Jibril Mahamud, who responded to summons by NCIC regarding the fights and are expected to shed more light in relation to the deadly skirmishes pitting two tribal clans in 12 sub-locations.
NCIC commissioner Danvas Makori said the leaders will help the commission in unraveling the basis of conflict which has so far claimed the lives of at least 14 people.
The NCIC had summoned five leaders on the matter including Bura lawmaker Yakub Adow Kuno who through his lawyer has sent a text that he is hospitalized with county MP Amina Dika Abudulahi relaying a message through her lawyer that she is outside the country.
Last Friday, DCI team grilled a section of politicians from the county led by Governor Godana Dhado concerning the clashes.
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki had on Friday declared two sub counties through a gazette notice as disturbed and dangerous areas for a period of 30 days.
The NPS together with other agencies have camped in the affected areas to restore calm and normalcy in the region.
