The National Museums of Kenya has denied claims that floodwaters swept venomous snakes and crocodiles from their cages at the Snake Park and into the city streets.
In a statement on Thursday, the National Museums of Kenya said Kenyans needed not panic as all the exhibits were secure.
The authority issued the statement in response to an alert that circulated on Thursday, claiming that stray reptiles were prowling Kijabe Street, Kipande Road, Ojijo, and the Goan Gymkana area.
The National Museums of Kenya also states that all exhibits are securely housed in their appropriate enclosures, ensuring their safety and preservation.
Meanwhile, heavy rains in Nairobi, Kajiado, Nakuru, Mandera, and Homa Bay Counties in the last 24 hours have resulted in multiple fatalities, as well as heavy flooding and landslides in Muranga and Nakuru Counties.
The particularly heavy rains over the past week have displaced thousands and killed at least 188 people across the country.
According to the Interior Ministry, an additional 125 people have been reported injured, and 90 people are currently missing. An estimated 165,500 people have been displaced, as have 33,100 households and 1,967 schools.
