Two suspected robbers were shot dead by police on Sunday evening after attempting to rob a supermarket along Raphta Road in Nairobi.
Two other suspects managed to escape after abandoning their motorcycle along Gitanga Road, fleeing towards Kawangware.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei reported that a pistol with six bullets and two knives were recovered from the slain men, along with the motorcycle used in their mission.
The suspects were spotted by vigilant supermarket attendants who noticed them carrying concealed weapons as they prepared to close the store for the day.
The attendants promptly alerted the police, leading to a brief chase that ended fatally.
Police are currently searching for the escaped suspects, while the bodies of the deceased have been moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.
Bungei emphasized that they have intensified operations in the city to address the rising cases of armed robberies.
Gang in Ruiru
Police in Ruiru are looking for a gang that attacked and robbed a group that had gone to Gatongora area in search of land for development.
The group was at a site visit when two men on a motorcycle pulled there.
They told police one of the men pulled out a gun and shot into the air twice as they ordered them to lie down and surrender cash and valuables.
The incident happened on February 10 at about 3 pm.
They then grabbed 15 assorted mobile phones from the group and an unknown amount of money before speeding off from the scene.
Police visited the scene and recovered one spent cartridge. No arrest has been made so far in connection with the shooting and robbery, police said.
Such incidents are common at construction sites and where people visit to view land for possible development.
The gangs behind the incidents usually know the visitors have cash and other valuables hence their moves.
Police usually advise victims to cooperate with the attackers for their own safety.
