"My net worth is 620 million" Youth affairs and sports CS nominee Kipchumba Murkomen says

Kipchumba Murkomen, the Cabinet Secretary nominee for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, has disclosed his net worth to be Ksh.620 million.

This marks a 12.73 per cent increase from the Ksh.550 million he declared in 2022 when being vetted for the Transport CS docket.

"There is a scheme in the public service where if you are a public servant you can get a mortgage. So after I was approved as Transport minister, I took a mortgage of Ksh.40 million and invested it," Murkomen told the National Assembly Committee on Appointments during his vetting on Saturday.

"Besides that my initial assets have appreciated by about Ksh.20 million. I got an additional Ksh.10 million in earnings from farming and other businesses so my net worth has increased by approximately Ksh.70 million from what I declared in 2022."

During his vetting before the same committee in September, 2022, Murkomen disclosed that he accumulated his wealth through several properties and parcels of land he owns across different regions of the country where he engages in farming.

"I am worth an estimated figure of Ksh.550 million made up of majorly my properties in Nairobi and another in Eldoret. Parcels of land; three in Trans Nzoia, one in Narok, one Kajiado, and another one in Nairobi apart from where I live," he said.

He further provided his then sources of income to the 15-member committee led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.

He stated that he earned a portion of his income from law practice and a salary from his previous Senatorial position.

"I practice law under the firm of SMS advocates LLP and I have been earning salary as my job as a Senator of Elgeyo-Marakwet county and I also do a bit of farming," he said then.
