Mt Kenya leaders have launched a political coalition dubbed Haki Coalition aimed at vouching for the "one man, one vote, one shilling" revenue sharing formula.
During the Limuru III meeting, the leaders present agreed to work towards uniting the region along the three thematic areas; which include political, social and economic.
It was also agreed that the region would pursue its interests collectively, including the push for one man, one vote, one shilling formula for sharing national resources
The leaders say the Haki Coalition is aimed at safeguarding the Mt Kenya interests and speaking in one voice.
Speaking during the function, Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua called on like-minded people to join the movement for the prosperity of the region.
"We must agree that those who showed up for the meeting are people keen on the Mt Kenyan unity and we appreciate all those who turned up. We are advocating for one Mountain one voice. The door is open for all who want to join us in this regional unity call. Our people should desist from being used to create division amongst us at the people of the Mt Kenya region," Karua said.
The same was echoed by former Laikipia Governor Nderitu Muriithi, who promised to take home the current regime, which he termed oppressive.
"When Kenyans complain about high taxes and high cost of living the government should listen. That's why they are in power. But if they fail to listen then we can assure them that 2027 is not far. We will take them home," Muriithi said.
"We are being led by fools. It's not a wonder that some tax policies and laws they are proposing are just counterproductive. Very high taxes but no services rendered to the populace to show for it."
National Assembly Minority Whip Mark Mwenje called on the people of the region to stand up for themselves and fight the atrocities advanced by the government against them.
"If Maumau had the courage to fight the colonial regime, did the fighters sire cowards who couldn't fight for themselves? Those who supported this regime had no agreement that Mt Kenya people would be oppressed. Why are we being cowed by this regime? We can fight it," Mwenje said.
Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu says despite supporting the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, the people were lied to.
"I was among those who campaigned for UDA, and as a result, our people were lied to. We were duped. I contributed to the predicaments the Mt Kenya region and the country is facing. I want to offer my heartfelt apologies to the people of Mt Kenya. I admit to my mistakes and it will never happen again I was also lied to," Waititu said.
He says he decided to resign from UDA after realizing that the party lied to Kenyans during the campaign period, failing to fulfil its promises.
"When I realized the mess that Ruto is and his lies, I resigned from UDA. I am now with wananchi. This is the first time the Mt Kenya region has been lied to and voted an outsider. We will not make that mistake again. 2027 we will be fielding our own candidate. The Mt Kenya region must be respected We will champion the one man, one vote, one shilling mantra in the division of revenue. We made a mistake by failing to pass the BBI Bill. We will work on that now," Waititu added.
The leaders have also agreed to hold more similar meetings in future.
