Mt Kenya Billionaires Financing Raila Throw Big Party, Make These Decisions
Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga is cruising above the clouds as he makes his fifth attempt at the top seat.
He has found new unlikely friends who are ready to go to any extent to make his dream of serving the country as the Chief Executive Officer come true.
Ironically, the same people who have in the past used their resources to fight his ascension to the presidency are now betting on him.
On Friday, billionaires and multi-millionaires backing Raila to replace President Uhuru Kenyatta next month will throw a party to raise funds for his presidential campaigns.
The event to take place at the Safari Park Hotel along Thika Road is organised by Mt Kenya billionaires coalescing around the Mt Kenya Foundation. The ultra-rich members of the cabal include media mogul SK Macharia, Equity Bank founder Peter Munga, Michael Waweru, Titus Ibui and Pius Ngugi.
The party is expected to collect at least Ksh1 billion just like in 2017 when a similar function was mounted for President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has also thrown his weight behind the former Premier.
Guests, who also include politicians and business magnates, will seat according to how one’s pockets are deep. There will be a four-tier sitting arrangement.
The first category, ‘Corporate’, will pay more than Ksh1 million to secure a seat. They will only be 10 seats.
The ‘Premier’ category will follow and those in this tier foot at least Ksh1 million to get a seat.
In the third category, Gold, two guests will join forces to raise Ksh1 million to secure a seat each.
And finally, there is the Silver category. Members here will contribute Ksh500,000 each.
However, Azimio presidential campaign secretariat Chairman, Laikipia Governor Nderitu Muriithi played down the talk about categories. He said the guests will contribute what they have.
Sources have disclosed that the tycoons are planning to set up a parallel tallying centre and ensure all Azimio agents across the country will be facilitated in a way they cannot be compromised.
Other funds will be channelled towards campaign logistics.
