Mombasa Lands county executive committee (CEC) for Lands and Urban Planning Mohamed Hussein was arrested on Sunday in connection with the gang rape of a blogger.
In a statement to the press, Coast Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Adan Guyo stated that the suspect is linked to the gang-rape of a blogger who criticised Governor Abdulswamad Nassir.
Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, on the other hand, has absolved himself of any wrongdoing in connection to the case noting that the allegations leveled against him are politically motivated by his opponents.
“This time around, those of you abusing and criticising us, even implicating our parents, what we will do to you come 2027 we will not do it right now. We will wait for 2027 and remind all the evils you have done to our people,” Governor Nassir stated.
According to kin of the CEC, Mohamed Hussein was abducted by seven men while he was having lunch with a colleague at a restaurant in Mombasa.
“In a series of unfortunate persecutory events over the past two weeks, this is another incident over the allegations levelled against the Governor of Mombasa and his supporters for no crime other than leading the people of Mombasa,” lamented kin to the CEC.
The development comes after four suspects were charged at Shanzu Court with rape and abduction of a Mombasa blogger to which they denied the allegations.
It is alleged that the four committed the offense on September 12 at an unidentified place, together with others who were yet to be arrested.
Among other offences the four suspects were charged with include abduction with intent to confine.
Two of the four were individually charged with the offence of gang rape after they were accused of sexually assaulting the blogger.
Governor Abdulswamad Nassir’s mother was also roped into the case. The police suspected Nassir’s mother was assisting some suspects related to the case to escape.
At least 11 people on the loose are suspected to have been involved in the abduction and gang rape of the blogger.
Documents filed in court show that in September, the victim posted on his TikTok account a video clip criticising the Governor.
Court evidence indicated the video clip captured the attention of internet users drawing mixed reactions from a section of them.
The police suspected that the video clip was the cause of the gang rape.
