Moi University announces shortage of condoms advise students to abstain

The administration at Moi University has requested that students refrain from sexual activity due to a shortage of condom supplies.

The request comes just a few days after first-year students have reported for their first semester.

On September 19, 2024, the administration of Moi University issued a memo to both students and staff, informing them about a serious and acute shortage of condoms on campus.

This announcement highlights the pressing need for sexual health resources and the potential implications for student well-being.

“This is to inform you that currently there is no supply of condoms to the health facilities around”As a result of this shortage, the administration provided guidance on how students can manage themselves during this crisis as followed

Moi University announces Condoms shortage
  1. Abstain if you can
  2. Be faithful to one trusted partner
  3.  If no.1 &2 are above humanly impossible but protective from commercial outlets
  4.  Always keep yourself busy with other worthwhile activities

They wrapped up by stressing the importance of prevention and reminding students that it’s better to take precautions than to deal with problems later.

We can all agree the abstinence is the best way to prevent STD/STI’s and unwanted pregnancy there is no doubt about that. However we all know that no matter how much the campaign for abstinence is loud, teenagers find it difficult.

Thus the government partnered with a brand of condoms known as Sure. Sure  condoms are distributed in all public universities in Kenya to prevent the ongoing issues of HIV, AIDS, and other STIs, as well as unintended pregnancies.
