The Ministry of Health (MoH) has confirmed the release of Ksh.1.75 billion to cater for doctors’ and medical interns’ salaries and allowances accrued since 2016.
According to the Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni, the government has started paying doctors salary arrears that had accumulated to Ksh.3.5 billion from 2016.
Speaking in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County on Saturday, the PS said they have so far cleared Ksh.1.75 billion.
“It is important to note that we have cleared the Ksh.1.75 billion owned by the doctors that emanated from the CBA of 2016 up to this year and we will continue working very closely with them because our health workforce is very dear to us,” PS Muthoni said.
The PS also said medical interns will receive their arrears this month in their salaries.
“The government will not be deducting money owed to them as we agreed in our meeting with Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union,” Muthoni added.
