Ministry of education receives the largest allocation of 656.6 billion in the 2024/2025 financial year

 Kenya's education sector has emerged as the largest beneficiary in the national budget for the fiscal year 2024/25, receiving Ksh 656.6 billion. 

This proposal, put forth by National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung'u, during the reading on Thursday, represents an increase over the Ksh 628.6 billion allocated in the fiscal year 2023/24.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will receive the largest portion of the budget, totaling Ksh 358.2 billion.

This sum is further subdivided across various sectors. Notably, Ksh 13.3 billion is set aside for the conversion of junior secondary school teachers to permanent and pensionable status, while Ksh 1.3 billion is set aside for teacher training in the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

The Free Primary and Secondary Education Programme has been allocated Ksh 71.5 billion, while Junior Secondary School Capitation has received Ksh 30 billion.

The school feeding programme will receive Ksh 3 billion, down from Ksh 5 billion last year.

Additionally, Ksh 5 billion has been proposed for examination fee waivers.

According to CS Ndung'u, Ksh 6 billion will be allocated for infrastructure development in primary and secondary schools. 

Furthermore, ICT integration in schools is set to receive Ksh 150 million, and research, science, technology, and innovation are projected to receive Ksh 700 million.

Ksh. 71.9 billion has been allocated for university education, with Ksh.62.8 billion going to the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) and other scholarships.
