Ministry of Education PS Belio Kipsang states that KSH 3.4 billion will be allocated for construction of grade 9 classrooms

Education Principal Secretary (PS) Belio Kipsang has stated that Ksh.3.4 billion will be allocated for the construction of Grade 9 classrooms as the ministry gears to build 16,000 classrooms by the close of 2024.

Speaking on Wednesday, PS Kipsang said that the government has set aside ample resources to erect classrooms for Grade 9 learners and the amount will allow the construction of a sufficient amount of classrooms.

Additionally, Kipsang noted that "MPs have been asked to set aside an equivalent amount so that we shall have Ksh.6.8 billion which should be able to do more than 6,000 classrooms."

The actualisation of the monies will be done in partnership with the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

He further noted that the government will later avail Ksh.9 billion to enhance the construction of another 9,000 classrooms.

The move is to create increased learning space in schools, under the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) system of education which was launched in 2017.

CBC replaced the 8-4-4 education system which will achieve full transition in 2027 when the last cohort will sit the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

CBC took a 2-6-3-3-3 system which entails the early-year education, middle school, junior secondary, upper secondary and university.

Grade 7 to 9 students are classed under the Junior Secondary School (JSS) bracket.
